Knowledge / thread preparation

Cleaning is
one process step.

A clean thread makes assessment easier. It does not replace inspection of the fastener or the assembly specifications.

Three questions before use.

01

What needs to be removed?

Rust, deposits and other residues differ. The brush material and cleaning method must suit the surface.

02

What needs to be preserved?

Coatings and material condition are part of the selection process. A cleaning trial on a suitable sample can help determine the right configuration.

03

What happens next?

Inspect threads, assess damage and carry out the approved assembly preparation. Lubricant and tightening specification must be considered together.

Clean, re-cut, replace.

Practical questions

Which thread cleaner suits my application?

Start with the internal or external thread and its nominal diameter. Then consider accessible length, radial clearance, quantity and drive. The model finder narrows down the documented sizes; WSD checks the complete combination.

Is cleaning sufficient for reuse?

No. After cleaning, threads and fasteners must be checked for damage, wear and corrosion. Whether reuse is permitted depends on the requirements for the particular connection.

Can I enquire about renting thread cleaners?

Yes. Tell WSD the task, quantity and period of use. We will check which cleaning solution can be supplied for your application, either for purchase or rental. Availability and scope of supply are confirmed in the quotation.

Is thread cleaning the same as thread recutting?

No. Brush systems remove residue. They do not restore a damaged thread profile. A thread-cutting tool, by contrast, machines the material; different selection and operating rules apply.

Are imperial sizes and special brush materials available?

Imperial versions and alternative brush materials are available on request. Please specify the thread designation, material and coating so that the appropriate system can be checked.
